We are so excited to welcome you to GetDigiWithIt.com! THIS is finally the site where the digital and traditional worlds collide.
When I began scrapbooking traditionally nearly 6 years ago, I never imagined myself in a “digital” world. I loved the texture and smooth colors of my Daisy D’s paper, and the richness of the American Crafts collections. I was a die-hard collector and crafter. I can honestly say that crafting became my life. I left my full time job to do something I loved- work part time at my local scrapbook store. That part time job turned into a full time career, as I moved from the store into a corporate position. Unfortunately working at the corporate office meant long days away from my children, and negotiating making my family a priority. I decided to make a change. From there, I began writing books so I could get back to what I loved… scrapbooking. It was then when I began to show symptoms of a disease typically found in people twice my age- Parkinson’s. It began to be more difficult for me to craft traditionally. No longer did I have the energy to lug my supplies to crops. Simple paper cutting and stamping (things I LOVED), became hard to do. More than that, I became embarrased and frustrated. Not wanting to give up a hobby I so adored, I discovered the outlet of digital scrapbooking.
While I began to collect my digital supplies, I did as we all do, and develop my favorite designers. Nothing at all compared to what I was used to getting at my local scrapbook store. Nothing at all. I began to create my own papers and elements… but still… nothing compared to the quality of what I had been so used to using. At the Craft and Hobby Association show in Annaheim, California, January 2007, I decided that I wanted to open my own digital shop. I wanted to bring on board those paper companies and somehow bring together the worlds of digital and traditional scrapbooking. That was something unheard of at the time- even though it was only 18 months ago. So, I moved forward.
I opened my own shop, and discovered a new side of the digital business world. I began the legwork to get traditional companies involved. While most were open to the idea, nearly all agreed that the industry just wasn’t ready.
Today, what seems like only a few short months later, that story has changed. Retail stores and manufacturers alike are embracing digital and hybrid scrapbooking. Design Originals began the process with releasing the “Digi-Scrappin’” book series. We followed up with CD’s by myself and craft industry veteran Tim Holtz. Now, we are introducing and education program where you, the customer, can get involved, and help your local retailer become a digital hotspot. Retailers now have a place to refer digital partners to lines they carry, and refer to in order to find instructors in their area. Manufacturers now have a home to introduce their products digitally to a new audiance.
And you, the digital scrapbooker, have a place to learn more about digital scrapbooking. You can hone your skills by joining the “Get Digitized” Tutorial Club. Now, you also can get exclusive collections from our manufacturer partners, as well as digital industry favorites from designers you know and love. Thank you for allowing us to breach this barrier, and now allow both worlds to simply…. Get Digi With It.
I would like to personally thank Suzanne McNeill and Design Originals for allowing me to fulfill my dream with their help. I would especially like to thank Kristy Krouse, my partner in this crazy endeaver, without whom this dream could never have festered into the reality it is. I would also like to thank our manufacturing partners for stepping out into new territory and taking a chance with a new audiance. Of course, I want to also mention our staff designers and creative team, without whom this creation could not live. To Kathy, my “makes it work” lady… whatever would I do without you. And to the Friday night crew… thank you for putting up with me during this process.
We are thrilled to bring you this adventure called “GetDigiWithIt”, and promise to offer you the best quality from the best manufacturers and designers in the traditional and digital industries. We strive to bring you top quality education, and a fun time to go along with it. Welcome to your new digital home.
For all the Digi Chicks… Amanda Dykan
